Video Final Project

Image
This is my video project. I originally had more clips that I wanted to use, but they are still on my old computer hard drive and the battery on that computer is fried. I still haven't been able to take out that hard drive yet.

Performance Project

Image
My performance project was inspired by childhood. It involves me cleaning and organizing a room and subsequently making a mess again. A combination of pointless tasks is an example of the point of view of children. I came up with this after I heard my younger brother ask my mom why he had to make his bed if he was just going to sleep in it again.

Printer Project

Image
This is based off of the Andy Warhol painting of Elvis. It's made out of many 8.5x11in printer paper connected together.

Grid Project

Image
My grid project is a painting of Mickey Mouse by Andy Warhol. It is acrylic paint on canvas. I used a round paint stamp to stamp each "pixel" with red, black, or beige paint. Originally I was going to do a picture of Weezer's first album cover, but I saw an ad for Mickey Mouse's 90th Birthday Party and they mentioned that Andy Warhol had done a painting of Mickey. I Google image searched "Andy Warhol Mickey Mouse" and sure enough this picture came up.

Flipbook Project

My flipbook is based on the novel 1984 by George Orwell. This novel is a dystopian future novel (one of the original dystopian future novels) centered around a middle aged man named Winston who falls in love with a younger woman who is a member of the Party. They carry out a secret relationship, trying to hide it from Big Brother, until they get caught by members of the Party. Much of the imagery in the story is what I chose to illustrate in this flipbook. The glass paperweight which represents a secret paradise to Winston, images of Big Brother watching over the people walking through the street in their blue jumpsuits, the picture of the Church hanging in the secret room in the shop that conceals the telescreen that watches Winston and Julia, and of course the slogan of the Party: War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength. While drawing the images for this flipbook, it was really difficult to gauge the speed of frames and how that would look in video. As a result o

Vacuum Tube Assignment

The vacuum tube was invented by Sir John Ambrose Fleming and was patented in 1905. The vacuum tube worked by placing an extra electrode inside of an incandescent light bulb. When the filament of the bulb was heated white-hot, electrons were boiled off into the vacuum inside the bulb. If the extra electrode is made more positive than the hot filament, a direct current flows through the vacuum. The current flows from the filament to the electrode, converting AC signals to DC. The vacuum tube (or vacuum diode) is considered the beginning of electronics and was used in radio receivers and radar for over 50 years. The invention of the vacuum tube allowed for innovations such as television, long distance phone calls, and the first electronic digital computers. Today, vacuum tubes have been replaced with transistors, but for over half a century, the vacuum tubes were a crucial aspect of the most advanced technology.

Stage Door Blog Response

Since this blog was written in Spanish, and I was only able to read a version translated by Google Translate, the blog was a little difficult to read. Looking through these shows is very interesting, but i will always have bias towards the Christmas themed pieces, as someone who listens to Christmas music year-round. The songs by Michael Bublé and Audra McDonald were beautiful renditions. Aside from just the Christmas songs, the clip from Meet Me in St. Louis at the 1990 Tony Awards was interesting to watch as well. As someone who is not well-versed in Broadway, it was an experience to see the actors' stage play, costumes, and how they have to sing and speak loudly, being in a big auditorium.
